PH EMBASSY OFFICIALLY INAUGURATED THE CELEBRATION OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES´ MONTH ON 21 OCTOBER 2024

Mexico City, 21 October 2024 - In celebration of Indigenous Peoples' Month, the Philippine Embassy in Mexico inaugurated a small-scale display at its receiving area, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and traditional attire of the indigenous peoples of the Philippines.

Ambassador Lilybeth R. Deapera officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the exhibit and delivered the message underscoring the importance of recognizing and valuing our indigenous heritage.

Cultural Officer Ms. Joecilita Guinid followed with a short-guided tour of the display representing the unique craftsmanship and artistry of our indigenous communities. She provided insights into the traditional garments and handicrafts of indigenous peoples, elaborating on the craftsmanship involved in creating products using materials such as pandan leaves, abaca, and other natural resources.

Among the highlighted items were the traditional banig (woven mat), bags made from banig, bamboo baskets, and tsinelas (slippers) crafted from pandan fibers.

The display serves not only as an exhibition of traditional attire but also as an educational opportunity to appreciate the cultural heritage that enriches the Filipino identity. END
