PH EMBASSY IN MEXICO COMMEMORATES THE 128TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARTYRDOM OF DR. JOSE RIZAL
The Philippine Embassy in Mexico commemorated the 128th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. José Rizal, on 27 December 2024. With the theme “Rizal sa Bagong Pilipinas: Buhay at Aral, Aming Nilalandas” (Rizal in the New Philippines: Life and Teachings as Our Guide), the intimate celebration was attended by several members of the Filipino community.
Ambassador Lilybeth R. Deapera offered a floral tribute at the Rizal Monument as a gesture of respect and remembrance for Dr. José Rizal’s heroic sacrifice. In her remarks, Ambassador Deapera highlighted Rizal’s enduring legacy and its relevance to the contemporary aspirations of Filipinos worldwide. She emphasized the importance of reflecting on Rizal’s life and teachings as a guiding light for the nation’s progress. She said that we can be heroes also in our own little way by helping others and our country.
First Secretary and Consul Ralf G. Roldan led the collective recitation of Dr. Rizal’s iconic farewell poem, “Mi Último Adiós”. The event took place at the Monument of Rizal in Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City. END
PH EMBASSY IN MEXICO MEETS WITH THE FRANZ MAYER MUSEUM TO DISCUSS THE MANTON DE MANILA EXHIBIT
The Philippine Embassy in Mexico met with Ms. Giovana Jaspersen, Director of the Franz Mayer Museum, to discuss the launch of the Manton de Manila (Manila Shawl) exhibit in January 2025.
The exhibit will be the newest addition to the growing number of Galleon trade-related objects in the museum. Objects pertaining to the colonial trade that are already displayed are Philippine wooden trunks and ivory crucifix, and Chinese porcelain.
The Museum is known for housing Latin America's largest collection of decorative arts. It primarily holds the collection of the German-born collector Franz Mayer whose interests in furniture, porcelain and objects of the Galleon trade are prominently displayed in its permanent exhibits. The museum also houses other collections from well-known personalities that add diversity to the museum's overall collection. Franz Mayer Museum loaned objects in the successful Manila Galleon Exhibition held at the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore from 16 November 2023 to 17 March 2024.

PH EMBASSY IN MEXICO MEETS WITH THE ACTING REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STATE OF COLIMA IN MEXICO CITY
The Philippine Embassy in Mexico met with Ms. Lizette Vasquez, Acting Representative of the State of Colima in Mexico City, on 13 December 2024.
Ms. Vasquez conveyed that the newly elected Mayor of Manzanillo City, Colima, Rosi Bayardo, is interested to forge sister-city agreements with cities or municipalities in the Philippines to explore possible collaboration in areas of mutual interest such as tourism, trade, education, culture and gastronomy.
The Port of Manzanillo, the most important port in Mexico, will be celebrating its 200 years founding anniversary in 2025. The State of Colima is inviting the Philippines to be the honored country to take part in this momentous celebration. END
