PH EMBASSY IN MEXICO JOINS THE ASEAN COMMITTEE IN MEXICO CITY BUSINESS MISSION TO DURANGO, MEXICO, 25-27 NOVEMBER 2024
The Philippine Embassy in Mexico joins the ASEAN Committee in Mexico City (ACMC) Business Mission to Durango, Mexico, from 25 to 27 November 2024. The business trip was organized by the Embassy of Indonesia in Mexico as the current Chair of the ACMC, together with the government of the state of Durango.
The ACMC held meetings with various officials of Durango State, including Mr. Esteban Villegas Villareal, Governor of Durango; Mr. José Antonio Ochoa Rodríguez, Municipal President of Durango; Mr. Fernando Rosas Palafox, Secretary of Economic Development; Mr. Arturo Ortiz Galan, Head of the Foreign Investment Attraction Unit; and Ms. Fernanda Ramos Velasco, Undersecretary of Promotion of the Ministry of Tourism. The committee discussed potential areas of cooperation in the field of tourism, education, renewable energy, and in the exchange of technology.
The ACMC was also invited to an exclusive tour of the Control, Command, Communication, Computing and Quality Centers or also known as C5 of the state of Durango. [C5 is a state-of-the-art facility built in 2016 that monitors all security-related matters of the state.]
The committee also witnessed the inauguration and did a walk-about of the state’s fair on Science, Technology, Innovation, and Research which served as a space for educational institutions to present their academic programs and scholarships. The Embassy observed that multiple institutions specialized in robotics and renewable energy engineering. END
PH EMBASSY IN MEXICO MEETS WITH MUNICIPAL PRESIDENT OF COQUIMATLAN CITY, COLIMA,MEXICO
Third Secretary Marisa Winkler met with Municipal President Luis Gerardo Garcia Olivares and other officials of the Municipality of Coquimatlan, Colima to discuss possible cooperation in the areas of education, cultural exchange and tourism.
The Municipality of Coquimatlan is one of the ten municipalities that make up the state of Colima with more than 20,000 inhabitants. The municipality has four faculties of the University of Colima: Chemical Sciences, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (FIME), Civil Engineering and Architecture. END.
Philippine embassy in Mexico welcomes visiting students from the Universidad autonĂ³ma de querĂ©taro
The Philippine Embassy in Mexico welcomes students and members of the faculty from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro.
Third Secretary Marisa Winkler led with a presentation on the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Mexico, as well as the country’s membership in various international organizations such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and APEC.
She also informed the students of the different scholarship opportunities in the Philippines including those from the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University.
Ms. Cintli Ayesa Cardenas Barajas, Professor of Social and Political Science, discussed that the University is open to collaborating with educational institutions in the Philippines that have International Relations programs. END
PH EMBASSY IN MEXICO ATTENDS THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 79TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RETURN OF SQUADRON 201 OF THE MEXICAN EXPEDITIONARY AIR FORCE
The Philippine Embassy in Mexico attended the Commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the return to Mexico of the 201st Air Fighter Squadron of the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force held at Parque Alameda Solidaridad in Cuernavaca, Morelos on 18 November 2024.
A ceremony, accompanied by a wreath-laying and poem reading, commemorated the return to Mexico of Squadron 201 on 18 November 1945, after aiding the Allied powers during the Second World War and helping in the liberation of Luzon. A minute of silence was observed in memory of the Squadron’s five fallen fighters.
First Secretary Ralf G. Roldan delivered a message highlighting the Squadron's valiant efforts, mentioning that it shows the strong bonds of friendship and unity that the Philippines and Mexico have had through the years. The First Secretary remarked that “history does not only have to be a static reminder of the past but should be a continuous reflection of how we forge the future for all of us”.
After the ceremony, a small exhibit of Squadron and war memorabilia was showcased. Some items that were displayed were uniforms and photos from the war.
The event was organized by the Agrupamiento Familiares y Amigos del Escuadron 201 headed by Dr. Roberto Yañez Vázquez, son of Squadron 201 First Sergeant Gunsmith Juan Bautista Yañez Camarena. END.
