The Embassy of the Philippines in Mexico represented by Second Secretary and Consul Ralf G. Roldan visited Colegio de México (COLMEX) on 18 January 2024 as part of its commemorative activities in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Mexico relations.

COLMEX held a film viewing of “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag” by renowned Filipino director Lino Brocka. The discussion that followed touched on the historical milieu and impact of the film, domestic migration, and language. The interest was palpable as exchanges of Mexican and Philippines experiences that filled the discussion lasted 40 minutes.

COLMEX is the only Mexican higher education institution that offers a program dedicated to Southeast Asian studies. An expert on the Philippines, Dr. Jorge Bayona, leads most classes on the Philippines, particularly on post-colonial history.
