The Philippine Embassy in Mexico hosted the launching of the book entitled “Sincronías Barrocas (Siglos XVI-XVIII): Agentes, Textos y Objetos entre Iberoamérica, Asia y Europa” in its premises on 16 August 2024.
The event was incorporated in the program of the seventh episode of La Historia Olvidada: Filipinas-Mexico 2024, a virtual colloquium series on Philippine-Mexico relations, which attracted around 100 virtual and in-person attendees.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Ralf G. Roldan welcomed the participants, followed by a presentation from the first speaker, Dr. Kristyl Obispado from the Department of History, University of the Philippines-Diliman, who provided insights into the book and its contents as one of its contributors.
Meanwhile, Dr. Carolina Rocha da Cunha of Escola Nacional de Administração Pública, Brasil, the second resource speaker, discussed the early travel encounters between Asia, Ibero-America, and Europe and how they shaped the idea of the Pacific in the 16th and 18th centuries.
